EN 10255 galvanized steel pipes are only permitted to be produced using the "welding process." The core processes are divided into two categories, suited to different sizes and precisions:
Suitable for pipes with an outer diameter of ≤ 219mm. High-frequency current is used to heat the galvanized steel water pipe edge and then squeeze and weld. The weld strength is ≥ 90% of the base material strength. This process offers high production efficiency and manageable costs. It is commonly used in municipal water/gas transportation.
Suitable for large-diameter pipes with an outer diameter greater than 219mm. Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) offers deep weld penetration and consistent quality, while Plasma Arc Welding (PAW) offers high precision and is suitable for industrial low-pressure fluid transportation (such as cooling water pipes).
● Appearance Inspection: No cracks, folds, scars, or delamination on the surface. Rust depth ≤ 10% of the wall thickness. Weld protrusion height ≤ 2mm (ERW pipe).
● Dimensional Inspection: Measure the outer diameter, wall thickness, and ovality of each pipe to ensure compliance with EN 10255 tolerances.
● Mechanical Testing: Three specimens are sampled from each batch and subjected to tensile and bend tests (bend angle 180°, bend center diameter = 3 x wall thickness). Acceptance is determined by the absence of cracks.
● Hydraulic Pressure Testing: All Galvanized Pipes undergo a hydrostatic test (test pressure = 2 x design pressure, maintained for 30 seconds with no leakage). The design pressure is calculated based on the wall thickness and brand.
● Weld Inspection: ERW pipes undergo eddy current testing (100% weld inspection), while arc-welded pipes undergo X-ray testing (sampling inspection ratio ≥ 10%) to detect internal weld defects.
● For low-pressure transmission (≤1.6 MPa, such as water/gas), P195TR1 (ERW process) is preferred for the best cost-effectiveness. For cold bending (e.g., on-site bending installation), choose P195TR2.
● For low-medium pressure (1.6-2.5 MPa, such as low-pressure steam): Choose P235TR1 (ERW for outer diameters ≤219 mm, SAW for diameters >219 mm). For circulating fluids (e.g., cooling water), choose P235TR2 for improved fatigue resistance.
● For corrosive environments (e.g., outdoor areas, humid industrial areas): Hot-dip galvanized EN 10255 steel pipe (galvanized layer thickness ≥85 μm) or anti-corrosion coating is recommended for extended service life.
● For large diameters (>273 mm), P235TR1/TR2 with submerged arc welding (SAW) is required to ensure weld strength and pipe stability.
